The McKeever Taylor firm was founded in 1890 by F.G. McKeever. The firm takes pride in its continuity, and in the century since then, at least one of the partners in the firm has always come from one of two families, the McKeevers or the Taylors. Robert McD. (Bertie) Taylor became a partner in the firm in 1943, and by the time his son, Brian G. McD. Taylor, joined the firm in 1966, the last of the McKeevers had left.
Since its inception, McKeever Taylor has always enjoyed a very busy and varied practice. In the past, it drew the bulk of its clientele from the local business and farming community. While the firm still maintains a high profile in that sector, over the last twenty years it has been successful in establishing a busy commercial and corporate practice, with a particular emphasis on Banking.
McKeever Taylor is currently made up of three partners, Fiach McHugh, Robert Taylor and Brian Taylor. Apart from the partners, the firm has a very committed and highly qualified staff, who play an invaluable role in providing a first class service to the firm’s clients.
Fiach McHugh is the managing partner of the firm. He joined the firm in 1988 and has been a partner since 1994. Fiach specialises in commercial and corporate law and has handled some of the landmark mergers and acquisitions in the North East in recent years. Fiach also has an extensive conveyancing practice. He has lectured on Conveyancing Law and has acted as an expert witness in High Court cases on conveyancing matters.
Robert qualified in 1998, having been apprenticed to McKeever Rowan in Dublin. After an initial period with McKeever Taylor, Robert joined the large Dublin firm BCM Hanby Wallace, where he developed a specialisation in Banking Law. On returning to McKeever Taylor he successfully grew a Banking Law aspect to the firm, to complement the firm’s growing corporate and commercial law practice. Having secured a Diploma in Property Law, Robert has also been a major factor in the firm’s successful conveyancing practice.
Brian Taylor qualified in 1966. On qualifying, Brian joined McKeever Taylor to work with his father, the late Bertie Taylor, who was then President of the Law Society of Ireland. Brian has been with the firm since then, becoming a partner in 1970. Over the last 53 years Brian has become one of the most experienced general practitioners in Drogheda, with a particular interest in Probate Law. He has very successfully built upon his father’s Probate practice to the extent that McKeever Taylor is now one of the leading Probate firms in North Leinster.
